Memorial Day Event in Apopka

The City of Apopka and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10147 will present a Memorial Day service on May 25.

The special event to recognize esteemed members of the military lost in service to our country will begin at 11 a.m. at Apopka’s Edgewood/Greenwood Cemetery off of Highland Avenue. Food and refreshments will be served afterward at the Apopka Community Building and VFW Post 10147, 519 S. Central Avenue.

Memorial speaker will be Steven R. Deviese. Apopka Mayor Joe Kilsheimer will recognize distinguished guests and present a wreath dedicated to the fallen heroes.

Pastors Doug and Roger Bankson will perform special music for the event. Madeline Mangas will present the Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic songs. The VFW Post Color Guard and Boy Scout Troop 211 will present the flags.

Reading names of fallen heroes who died during the past year will be accompanied by the release of doves. The VFW Post also will present a gun salute. Flags will be provided for veterans gravesites in the cemetery.
