Construction update on new $203M Florida Hospital Apopka

from the Orlando Business Journal

Even in the middle of the night, headway is being made on the construction of Florida Hospital’s new $203 million hospital in Apopka.

At 2 a.m. on Dec. 10, the foundation of the new 120-bed hospital was poured at the site on the corner of Harmon Road and Ocoee-Apopka Road. When completed, the hospital will have all private patient rooms, a full-service emergency department, imaging, outpatient rehabilitation, a women’s center, surgery and a diagnostic cath lab, according to Florida Hospital.

This development is the second largest investment in Apopka’s history, and it will create up to 300 jobs, many of which will be high wage. These include nurses, physicians, lab technicians and various administrative positions. Salaries for these jobs range from $47,000 to $187,000, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Florida Hospital is relocating its existing Apopka hospital at 201 N. Park Ave. to the Harmon Road site in order to build a larger hospital. The current facility has just 50 beds. Once the new hospital opens in 2017, Florida Hospital plans to build a senior-living community at the Park Avenue site, big enough for 400 residents.
In turn, this will create additional construction opportunities, temporary jobs and full-time jobs to staff the community, while also serving the needs of the aging baby-boomer generation that has spurred more than $400 million in senior-living projects in Central Florida just this year.

Meanwhile, Florida Hospital for Women at the Orlando campus is nearing its grand opening. The 332-bed hospital dedicated to women’s services is opening in January.
