Bright House Sports Network Ranks Apopka #4 in Central Florida

Heading into Week 1 of the 2015 High School Football season, local cable network Bright House Sports ranks Apopka as the 4th best team in Central Florida. Mainland holds the top spot with Dr. Phillips, the Blue Darters Week 4 opponent at #2 and Cocoa at the third spot. Here are the complete rankings:

1. Mainland – Weather issues forced a cancellation of Bucs kickoff classic, meaning Friday’s game against rival DeLand will be Mainland’s 2015 debut.

2. Dr. Phillips – Opener at Wekiva is the first of six straight games against teams that made the postseason in 2014.

3. Cocoa – Tigers begin the regular season against Palm Bay, an opponent they haven’t faced since 2008.

4. Apopka – Blue Darters looked impressive in their preseason game, jumping on Lake City Columbia 35-0 before securing a 21-point victory.

5. Osceola – Kowboys chewed up 393 rushing yards in three quarters and topped West Orange 28-21 in action between Varsity starters.

6. West Orange – Auburn commit Woody Barrett showed his athletic ability with a pair of rushing TDs against Osceola.

7. Heritage – Panthers topped state ranked Vero Beach 20-17 to start what has the potential be the best season in program history.

8. Bishop Moore – Hornets look for their third straight victory against Edgewater in the ‘Battle of College Park’ Friday night on BHSN.

9. Merritt Island – Mustangs figure to get an early barometer of where they stand in Friday’s home opener against Heritage.

10. Viera – 4-star wide receiver Tre Nixon hauled in a pair of touchdown passes as Viera blitzed Eau Gallie 55-7 in their preseason game.

11. Oviedo – Lions assume the position as Seminole County’s highest ranked team after a solid performance against Wekiva.

12. Lake Mary – A 28-7 loss to Deltona showed the Rams have tons of work as they try to run the table in the regular season for third straight season.

13. Edgewater – Eagles starting quarterback Cortez Pembleton left Friday’s game against Winter Park with an apparent knee injury.

14. South Sumter – Raiders looked sloppy at times but came away with a 30-20 preseason win over St. Petersburg Admiral Farragut.

15. Palm Bay – Pirates shutout Lantana Santaluces in their kickoff classic and get a shot at Brevard County’s top squad, Cocoa, this week.

16. Oak Ridge – First year coach Tyrone Sapp makes his regular season debut with the Pioneers this Friday against Jones.

17. Winter Park – Montverde Academy transfer Jordan Pouncey made a number of plays as the Wildcats topped Edgewater 14-10 in a half.

18. Wekiva – Mustangs start their challenging 2015 schedule with a home date against Dr. Phillips.

19. Lake Brantley – Patriots quarterback Jared Bernhardt had a terrific game as the Patriots scored on all five first half possessions against Spruce Creek.

20. Orange City University – In a game that carried more meaning than most pre-season affairs, Titans got past rival DeLand 14-12.
