Apopka will use a committee to screen its next city attorney after Thomas Cloud, on the job less than two weeks, was asked to resign because his mobile-phone number appeared on a brothel’s client list.

Mayor Joe Kilsheimer, who chose Cloud with little input from City Council, formed a five-person committee to whittle the applicants to three before he chooses Cloud’s replacement. Though Kilsheimer has the authority under the city charter to hire and fire, he assured city commissioners they would have an opportunity to weigh in on the final three candidates.
