Apopka got its single-wing rushing game cranked up in the second half, gaining 322 yards on the ground over the final two quarters en route to a 46-25 victory Friday over Edgewater.

The Blue Darters (2-0) led the Eagles 30-25 early in the fourth before grinding out a pair of scoring drives to salt away the victory.

Edgewater (0-2) was led by Buck Watkins who scored on a 95-yard kickoff return and an 86-yard pass from Cortez Pembleton.

For the game, the Blue Darters rushed for 469 yards. Junior Demetri Burch led the way for Apopka with 171 yards and one touchdown, while DeShawn Massey gained 136 and also scored once for the Darters.

Edgewater used the big play to keep itself in the game. Quondarrius Whitfield returned a fumble four yards late in the second period for the Eagles’ first score. In addition to Watkins’ special-teams score and receiving touchdown, Edgewater’s Craig Rucker raced 50 yards on fourth-and-1 in the third quarter.

Dekwon Wilson scored twice for Apopka and rushed for 64 yards. Odunayo Seriki had 85 yards, a touchdown and a pair of two-point conversions for the Blue Darters
